Our nose, being the most central feature on our face, is so prominent that how it looks can dramatically affect our appearance. If you’re someone who’s always bothered by the shape of your nose and you’re on the quest for the perfect nose, there are two solutions you can turn to: a nose job or a nose thread lift. What do these options offer and what are their differences? We’ll share more about them below to help you make an informed choice.

What Is A Nose Job?

Also known as rhinoplasty, a nose job is a surgical procedure that aims to alter your nose’s shape and size. It ranks among the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery in the world for not just aesthetic purposes, but also for medical reasons.

During a rhinoplasty, the surgeon will make small incisions within your nostrils or across the columella to allow them to remove, reshape, or reposition the nasal tissues. Doing so will modify the shape and size of your nose to achieve the desired look. In certain cases, additional cartilage grafts harvested from other parts of the body or made from synthetic materials may be used to augment the nose’s structure.

Some of the nasal issues it can correct include a disproportionate or asymmetrical nose, a hump on the bridge, a bulbous tip, wide nostrils, or a deviated septum that causes breathing difficulties.

What Is A Nose Thread Lift?

A nose thread lift is a non-surgical, minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure designed to reshape and enhance the appearance of the nose without the need for traditional surgical techniques like rhinoplasty.

Dissolvable threads will be inserted into precise locations in the nose and adjusted to achieve a desired appearance. This can involve lifting the nasal tip, reducing the appearance of a dorsal hump, or improving overall symmetry.

Nose Job Vs Nose Thread Lift

1. Downtime

Some common side effects patients may encounter after a rhinoplasty include swelling and bruising. They may even persist for extended periods, and require you to take many weeks off from work or other activities to focus on recovering.

Nose thread lifts, on the other hand, don’t require as much downtime. While some mild swelling or bruising may occur, they tend to be less severe and most patients can resume their daily routines almost immediately after the procedure.

2. Cost

Rhinoplasty, due to its complexity, is the more expensive option between the two. Some of the costs you’ll need to factor in include surgical fees and facility fees. Nose thread lifts are generally more cost-effective. However, because they are not permanent, you will need to go for multiple sessions over time in order to maintain results.

3. Duration Of Results

The changes made to the nose in a rhinoplasty are usually durable and permanent once the healing process is complete. This is not the case for nose thread lifts because the threads used will dissolve over time. The effects will typically only last for about one to two years. Hence, periodic touch-ups will be required if you wish to maintain the desired results.

Contemplating between getting a nose job and a nose thread lift? This depends entirely on your preferences, goals, and circumstances.

Rhinoplasty is a procedure that will give you more long-lasting results, however, its long recovery time and high risk is something that deters many. The second option—nose thread lifts—only give you temporary results, but offer minimal downtime, are more cost-effective, and are less risky. If you’re not sure which option is right for you, do consult with an aesthetic doctor.
